All the farmers (the total of 6,072) are Fairtrade certified and in addition to this, around 1070 members are Organic, and C.A.F.E. Practices certified. These farmers are in the same zone and thus certified as organic.

Besides the normal farmers providing coffee cherries to the washing stations, Abakundakawa also has a special group of women growing and providing cherries, called Hingakawa. This is a group of 740 widowed women who lost their husband during the genocide against Tutsi and other womens that their husband has been involved in gonocide. Hingakawa stands for ‘cultivated coffee’ or ‘grow the coffee’ and it helps the women in reconciliation and restoration.
